How to Create a Flatlay

Flatlays have become a norm in our feeds. But sometimes, when we get not writer’s block, but content block, we don’t know what to use to create that beautiful picture. Be resourceful. When I think that it is time for another flatlay in my feed, I usually just take a look around to see what I have available.

Everybody loves food, so there is an easy one. It does not have to be homemade, there are French pastry shops galore. For this shoot, I had made Cheese Danishes. I was craving croissants and cheesecake, but did not have the time to make them both, therefore, I figured this was a perfect in between. And let me tell you, they have been delicious. Flaky on the outside and creamy on the inside. I have one with each cup of coffee. 

The park just beyond my backyard is full of little white flowers, called Bindweed. It is just bursting with them. They’re so dainty and pretty. Some of them even have pink edges. So I went out with a bowl of water and a pair of scissors and starting collecting, after filling the bowl, I brought them inside.

I laid the danishes on a flat white surface and proceeded to place the dainty flowers all around, like a halo. Then Walla! Perfection. Took less than an hour to create. Easy and beautiful.

*Tip: with every shot, just keep moving the items around, take some out and add some in. Take at least 10 photos. Then when you look at them, you can pick your favorite.
